Tobacco giants’ plain talk on packaging

The big tobacco manufacturers are to meet health officials this month, giving them a unique opportunity to head off government proposals to enforce non-branding on cigarette packs.
Imperial Tobacco, the world’s fourth-largest tobacco company, will visit the Department of Health today to discuss the department’s official assessment on how plain tobacco packaging would affect the industry.
The other big manufacturers have also been invited to meet officials. British American Tobacco will do so later in the month.
